Fractures and dislocations are the most common ortopedic procedures most people think about, and Riverside is equipped with plates, screws and pins to manage most fractures. Probably the most frequent orthopedic condition we see is the ruptured cranial cruciate ligament (anterior cruciate in people). At Riverside, we are lucky enough to be able to offer TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) which is the gold standard for Cruciate repair in larger dogs. We also offer traditional lateral suture techniques, fibre tape repair and can also offer minimally invasive joint inspection via arthroscopy. Whilst the repair itself does not require arthroscopy, we can use our arthroscope to inspect the menisci within the knee joint for damage. Arthroscopy is not a universal solution, but in cases where it is suitable it reduces post-surgical pain compared with traditional arthrotomy (opening the joint right up). It also speeds recovery post surgery. Other joint surgeries include, surgery for osteochondrosis, elbow dysplasia, and hip dysplasia.
